You may know that I facilitated a coaching-infused conversation around self-awareness and self-assessment at last week’s Ellevate Network (Toronto chapter) Coffee Connection monthly event…
And we had a great conversation, exchanging our different perspectives on what self-awareness and self-assessment meant to us… but also about how they affect our lives, and how we could more consciously, purposefully, use self-awareness and self-assessment in leading our lives…
Which gave me the idea to write about self-awareness, self-assessment and promotions…
This week’s Instant Coaching-Infused Conversation

This week’s topic: self-awareness, self-assessment and YOUR promotion
Imagine…
You’re hoping to get promoted this year (be it formally with a new job title, or informally – like getting involved with more difficult projects, becoming more independent in undertaking some of your work, etc.)…
You’ve been hoping for this promotion for a while…
You’ve worked hard, long hours, saying “yes” often…
But you’re still waiting…
Maybe it’s because the Economy is not right for promotions…
Maybe it’s because the bosses don’t notice your hard work…
… But others (who don’t seem to work as hard as you) are still getting promoted…
Or maybe, you think, it’s because you’re “not good enough”…
But what if, instead, you were thinking: “It’s because I’m not using my strengths in the most efficient and visible way… so I’m not putting myself in a position to be noticed!”
Then, YOU could do something about it… And START taking action to get noticed…
And put more chances on your side to finally get that promotion!

- What’s your self-awareness about your strengths and weaknesses in your work environment? Reflect back on the activities you did in the last week, last month…
- How could you improve your self-awareness? Yes, think about all these self-assessments (many are free) available online… You may even already have done some…
- What could you do with the information obtained from the self-assessment?
- I know, it can be overwhelming to look at that information… lots of words and theoretical statements…
- What if you only looked at one of these statements?
- What could you do to highlight this strength / skill of yours as often as possible at work?
- What could you start doing right away?
>>>> So, what’s ONE action you’re COMMITTING to do THIS WEEK following this Instant Coaching-Infused Conversation? (even a small action like scheduling a task in your calendar!)
How would you feel if you could actually have THIS conversation with me as your coach (instead of reflecting on your own, with your thoughts probably ending up going around in circle in your head) so that you could really look into how to START moving forward with your current goal?
