Welcome to the July 2022 Pistachio-Cassis Newsletter
– which also happens to be the very first edition of this newsletter, AND the very first newsletter that I write!
If you’ve read my bio, you know that I set-up Pistachio-Cassis Coaching to “empower others to also create the life and career they want”, while doing the same for myself. Well, this newsletter is yet another step for me to empower myself… Writing is something I’ve been wanting to do for a while. In 2021, I started publishing articles on LinkedIn, and I continued this year. But now I’m going a step further with this newsletter…
While the Pistachio-Cassis Newsletter is an empowering step for me, I also hope that you’ll find it interesting, learn “life coaching” tips that you can use on yourself or in your day-to-day life (including at work), and that it will empower you to take steps to create the life and career you want for yourself!
When I sat down to write this newsletter, I had so many ideas and topics coming to mind… But it’s probably better if I actually start at the beginning – introducing my coaching philosophy and how I came to define it!
5 Steps to Empowering Yourself to Create the Life and Career You Want
Before becoming a professional life coach, I was a construction professional for 25 years, working on a wide range of construction and engineering projects, in different roles, in several countries, and in different languages (feel free to check my bio if you’re curious and want to know more!). This means that I went through a number of changes during that time – some that I created and some that I caught passing by – working to follow my own path…
Many of the experiences were indeed fulfilling and challenging. Yet, the time came when I realized that I actually felt unhappy, unfulfilled, unsatisfied with where I was in my life… and that I had to go deeper than I did in the past to figure out what I wanted and then how to reach it… So I went on an “exploration” journey, but a journey that I hadn’t planned for in advance and with only a vague idea of the destination (what I wanted to do with my life)… And, to be honest, it wasn’t a pleasant journey at the beginning… but it became more and more interesting, satisfying and fulfilling once I started to see the destination… and it became exciting (most of the time) when I started to take steps to get closer to my destination!
But this exploration journey could have been a lot easier, quicker and pleasant from the beginning if I had known then what I learned going through it the way I did: the steps to follow to figure out what I wanted and then how to reach it (the 5 Steps to Empowering Yourself to Create the Life and Career You Want)!
These 5 steps are, basically, the steps I went through during my exploration journey – but I went through them in a very disorganized way, sometimes going around in circles, or going backward. Having trained as a professional life coach, I’m now able to see a better, more organized, approach to creating the life and career I want… And I believe this approach can also empower others (you) to create the life and career they (you) want!
So, what are these 5 steps?
- STEP 1. Get Clear - Discover Who You Really Are
- STEP 2. Get Inspired, Explore, and Expand Your View of the Possibilities “Out There”
- STEP 3. Create Your “Wheel of Life”
- STEP 4. Pick a Goal
- STEP 5. Take the First Step to Create the Life and Career You Want
I’ll be discussing each of these steps in the following editions of the Pistachio-Cassis Newsletter.

“Coaching Moments” We Can All Enjoy & Practice
If you follow me on LinkedIn, you may have seen these “coaching moments” already… but as it takes time (and practice) to create new habits, here is a recap. of the June 2022 “coaching moments”!
Like in any profession, professional life coaches attend professional development events. As such, I attended several webinars of the WBECS Summit 2022… and came back with a few “coaching moments” that we can all enjoy and practice in our day-to-day life!
Rebecca Heiss “Hardwiring Happiness: The Biology Of Satisfaction & Success" – all paraphrased:
- “It’s not success that brings happiness, but happiness that brings success”!
- “The only difference between excitement and fear is that our brain thinks it’s an adventure or an ordeal”
- “Stop asking “how are you?” and instead start asking “what’s going well for you today?””
Caroline Leaf “Cleaning Your Mental Mess: The Mind-Brain-Body Connection"
- “You can’t change your story but you can change what it looks like inside you and how it plays out into your future”
And, as part of my own exploration journey, I came across Michael Bungay Stanier (“MBS”) and his “2 Pages with MBS” podcast… I love the diversity of topics discussed in his podcast. In particular, I came across this statement from MBS (paraphrased) from the episode “How to Resist Conformity: Julie Lythcott-Haims” on July 14, 2021:
- “It’s a great tension of life, which is between finding our own voice and finding our authentic self, and wanting to conform and be part of the crowd”
“Secret” Life Coaching Techniques We Can All Use
If you follow me on LinkedIn, you may have seen these “secret” life coaching techniques already… but as it takes time (and practice) to create new habits, here is a recap. of the June 2022 “secret” life coaching techniques!
Looking at an issue from a different perspective.
Why? Well, have you ever seen these pictures where different people will see different things (a young person v an old one, a frog v a horse’s head, etc.), where what people see is often based on unconscious opinions (or perspectives)?
We do the same with what goes on in our lives: we see “something” but we could see “something very different” if we look at it from a different perspective, from a different angle…
What if… it was our best friend telling us the “story” we tell ourselves?
What would we say to them? How would we advise them? – So, what would it be like if we were “seeing” our “story” from the perspective of a best friend, and how would we move forward differently?
One of the best coaching questions (in my opinion)?: Silence…
Sounds like an easy “question”? Have you tried it? – Like not saying anything as soon as the other person stopped talking? How long can you hold saying nothing?...
How much reflective time are you “giving” to the other person, allowing them to have time to reflect, brainstorm, search within themselves?
How much reflective time are you “giving” to yourself when “speaking to yourself”? Are you allowing yourself time to reflect, brainstorm, search within yourself?
Need a smiling face to help you shift to a more positive mood, but no one around (or no one smiling)?
Well, this is my “go to” smiley face when I need one – the artist’s fun touch, combined with nature, always gives me a boost… (taken at Grail Springs Retreat, Bancroft, Ontario, Canada)
What’s your “go to” smiley face?
