Obstacles…

Do you find them often in your way to achieving your goals?

I do… and I used to see them as negative events slowing me down, even stopping me from achieving my goals…

But now I try (yes, it’s still a “work in progress”!) to look at them differently…

… Because of this quote:

“Obstacles are detours in the right direction” – Gabby Bernstein

Because it made me reflect on the “detours” my life is taking, right now…

Am I even seeing those “detours”?

Could I be missing out on some opportunities that I’m not seeing because I’m concentrating on the “obstacles”?

That was a great topic for a few coaching sessions… changing my perspective on life, and looking at the “detours” rather than the “obstacles”…

How about you?

WHAT IF you looked at making the best of your “detours”… rather than spending your energy on the “obstacles”?

How would you FEEL?

What would you GAIN with this change of perspective?

This week’s Coffee-break Coaching conversation

This week’s topic: What are your obstacles telling you?

Take a moment to think of a goal you really want to achieve, but obstacles keep coming your way…

Think about your “why” for wanting to achieve that goal…

Think about what you’ll get from achieving that goal… and what you would lose if you don’t…

And now, concentrate on the latest obstacle you’re facing…

Now, imagine that the next 20 minutes are just about YOU (your time, your space, your voice, your thoughts…) and you’re having a deep conversation with me, your coach... Just let your mind wander as you reflect on the questions below…:

  • Imagine that the obstacle (something to deal with) is now a detour (not having to deal with the obstacle)… What does that detour look like? – Make a note of whatever words that come up…
  • How do you feel now that you don’t have to deal with the obstacle?
  • What needs to happen for you to get on that detour (at least 3 things)?
  • Pick ONE out of those 3 things.
  • What’s ONE thing YOU can do about it? – even if it’s a very small action…
  • What do YOU need to DO it? – Get as much as you can and START getting on that detour…
  • What did you get out of this conversation?

So, what’s ONE action you’re COMMITTING to do THIS WEEK following this Coffee-break Coaching conversation? (even a small action like scheduling a task in your calendar!)

And now, imagine you’ve taken that ONE action, and then another one, and another one… and you’re making your way along that detour, avoiding the obstacle…

How does it FEEL like? What are you GAINING?

Are you READY to take action, to GROW, to get OUTSIDE of your comfort zone?
