I like to listen to podcasts and webinars while doing some house chores – I know, multitasking is not the best way to learn something… but it’s better than nothing at all!
And sometimes I hear something that just stick in my head, like this statement:
Self-confidence is the decision to try, lack of self-confidence is the decision not to try – Mel Robbins
When I heard it, it opened a whole new perspective in my mind…
The perspective that “self-confidence” is about “trying” something, taking that one small step outside of my comfort zone - not about getting it right 1st time…
But also that “lack of self-confidence” is about not showing up for myself, hiding behind a supposed lack of knowledge or experience as an excuse…
And that new perspective helps me (a lot) in taking those steps I hesitate to take (because I’m not sure to get it right the 1st time!)…
But I often have to remind myself of that statement by Mel Robbins… because it’s very easy for me to fall back into that “decision not to try” mindset…

This week’s topic: Self-confidence
Think of a situation you’re having right now, where you know that your lack of self-confidence is stopping you from moving forward and resolving it…

Now, imagine that the next 20 minutes are just about YOU (your time, your space, your voice, your thoughts…) and you’re having a deep conversation with me, your coach... Just let your mind wander as you reflect on the questions below…:
- Imagine you’ve “miraculously” resolved the situation… What has changed in your life? What did you get out of resolving the situation?
- Now, imagine that no “miracle” happened and the situation is still unresolved… What are you missing out on because you’re not dealing with that situation, because of your lack of self-confidence?
- Which one of these 2 visions do you prefer? – Let’s assume it’s the 1st one!
- In your mind, replace “lack of self-confidence” by “decision to try”… and identify 5 actions (minimum) you could try to resolve that situation.
- Pick THE ONE you feel most attracted to…
- What’s stopping you from TRYING it out? – Remember, we’re talking about TRYING, not about getting it right!!!
- Note: if the ONE action you selected still feels too much, then identify 5 sub-actions you could try to make that ONE action happen…
- I’m curious: How did you feel during this conversation?
So, what’s ONE action you’re COMMITTING to do THIS WEEK following this Coffee-break Coaching conversation? (even a small action like scheduling a task in your calendar!)
And now, imagine you’ve taken that ONE action, and then another one, and another one… How do you like your new perspective on Self-Confidence?
How does it FEEL like? What are you GAINING thanks to it?
