October 10, 2024, is World Mental Health Day… and this year’s theme is “It is Time to Prioritize Mental Health in the Workplace”…

“Employed adults spend more time working than any other activity during their waking hours. […] work can provide a livelihood and be a source of meaning, purpose, and joy. However, for too many people, work falls far short of its potential, failing to enhance our lives and detracting from our mental health and well-being in ways that result in excessive distress and mental ill health.

Mental health issues, such as depression and anxiety, are pervasive in workplaces globally, impacting productivity, attendance, and overall performance. When left untreated, the staggering economic cost is estimated at US$1 trillion annually by the WHO.” - World Federation for Mental Health

Grab one of your favorite drinks…

Find a nice and comfortable spot…

“Push away” your current worries – just for a few minutes, as if they had magically disappeared…

And think about how you feel about your work (in general)…

Now, imagine that the next 20 minutes are just about YOU (your time, your space, your voice, your thoughts…) and you’re having a deep conversation with me, your coach... Just let your mind wander as you reflect on the questions below…:

  • What are the 3 first words that come to mind describing how you feel?
  • What’s your reaction when you hear those words: Happiness? Flow? Frustration? Stuck? Etc.
  • What would it be like to feel “just a little bit” better? Describe it in 3 words.
  • What’s ONE thing you can do TODAY to move toward this “just a little bit better” feeling? – Like taking 20-minute coffee-break even though you’re so busy; or having a 15-minute call with a very good friend; or googling “what else can I do with [knowledge / experience] and see what comes up…
  • What’s ONE thing you can do tomorrow? And how about next week?
  • What’s showing up for you when you think about the “ONE” things you can do right away to feel “just a little bit” better?

So, what’s ONE action you’re COMMITTING to do THIS WEEK following this Coffee-break Coaching conversation? (even a small action like scheduling a task in your calendar!)

And now, imagine you’ve taken that ONE action, and then another one, and another one… and you keep taking actions toward feeling “just a little bit” better…
