What does “chance” mean to you?
Here are a few definitions from the Oxford Dictionary:
- a possibility of something happening
- the occurrence and development of events in the absence of any obvious design
- do (something) despite its being dangerous or of uncertain outcome
I used to see “chance” as something completely outside of my control, something that some people had a lot of, and others, not a lot… and, of course, I saw myself as one of these people who didn’t have much “chance”…
But my perspective changed when I heard this:
Chance is when preparation meets opportunity – Oprah Winfrey
And my perspective changed because:

Preparation: I could definitively work on that, be it learning, practicing, researching, etc.

Opportunity: I could work on that too, even if I didn’t have full control over which opportunities would appear when or where… I could network, keep my eyes and ears open, put myself “out there”…
