Do you ever feel you’re saying “yes” to too many things, too often, too quickly?

And then, shortly after, you feel the “weight” of that “yes”…

… Because you already have too much going on…

… Because you’re just not interested in that thing…

… Because you’d prefer to work on YOUR priorities, not someone else’s…

But it’s too late… you’ve already said “yes” and you’re not the type of person who goes back on their word…

So you’re stuck with it…

And it consumes so much of your energy and willpower, and it affects your well-being…

But WHAT IF you figure out how to not say “yes”?

How would you FEEL?

Can you imagine how you could change your life just because you’re not saying that word anymore (or not as often)?

This week’s topic: Saying “yes” too often

Let’s start with a specific example…

… A recent situation where you said “yes” when really you would have liked to say “no”…

… And now you’re regretting that “yes”…

And let’s re-live that moment when you were asked to do something, just before you said “yes”…

Now, imagine that the next 20 minutes are just about YOU (your time, your space, your voice, your thoughts…) and you’re having a deep conversation with me, your coach... Just let your mind wander as you reflect on the questions below…:

  • So, you’ve just been asked to do something… but before answering, you think “if I say “yes” to that, what do I have to say “no” to?”.
  • Can you list the activities you would have to say “no” to?
  • Are you content with saying “no” to those activities?
  • What will you lose if you can’t do those activities as planned?
  • Are you willing to accept those losses?
  • If the answer is “no”, then you know what your answer should be to that request…
  • Now, what do you need to have readily available (in your mind) to say “no” one way or another? Well, you need to have a range of answers like “no”, “I don’t have the availability”, “I’m already dealing with some urgency”, “let me think about it”… and many more…
  • And now, you need to practice!!!!
  • How does that feel?

So, what’s ONE action you’re COMMITTING to do THIS WEEK following this Coffee-break Coaching conversation? (even a small action like scheduling a task in your calendar!)

And now, imagine you’ve taken that ONE action, and then another one, and another one… and you’re not saying “yes” so often anymore!!!
